Are there airline memberships for a person to fly a certain amount per year at a discount?
I moved from Appleton, WI to Omaha, NE for a job and now live with my girlfriend. I want to visit my family more often than holidays. Is there a membership where I fly once a month or a certain amount per year to get a discount on flights?

No, there are not, but every major airline has a frequent flyer program where you get miles or credits for each flight you take, and when you've earned enough, you can trade in your credits/points/miles for a free flight. Some will even give you free upgrades to first class or business class based on how much you fly, and if there are people who fly more than you on a certain flight. To make this work to your advantage, it's best to stick to ONE airline only, or to one airline alliance. An airline alliance is a network of airlines who work together to give their frequent fliers more options. You may join the United frequent flier program, for example; they are in the Star Alliance so your flights on Air Canada and USAirways would count towards your United status as well. Not all airlines are in an Alliance though, so check each airline's website to see who their partners, if any, are. Southwest and JetBlue don't partner with anyone. When you pick your preferred airline, make sure you check the airfares and flight schedules between your most frequently used airports to be sure that it is a good fit. A cheap fare might not be worth it if you can only get one nonstop flight a day because you might have to miss work, or fly on the weekends (meaning less time spent with family than if you can fly Friday nights) to get the fare. You can also consider getting a credit card sponsored by your chosen airline so you get points/miles faster and get your free flights faster.
