Why does Obama think he needs to apologize for the United States of America? Why are the French so obnoxious?
The US Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible. Rusk responded, "Does that include those who are buried here?" DeGaulle did not respond. ____________________________________________________________ When in England, at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of 'empire building' by George Bush. He answered by saying, "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return." ____________________________________________________________ There was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break, one of the French engineers came back into the room saying, "Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intend to do, bomb them?" A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: "Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?" ____________________________________________________________ A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, "Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?" Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied, "Maybe it's because the Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German." ____________________________________________________________ Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on. "You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically. Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously. "Then you should know enough to have your passport ready." The American said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it." "Impossible.. Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France !" The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen to show a passport to. ____________________________________________________________ I am proud to be of this land, of AMERICA, and I don't need some muslin apologizing for me or my country. @ Mike. Surely you must be one of those obnoxious frenchmen to make such false statements as you did. There was nothing false or insulting about any of what was said in those quotes, of course I can see how you french would take the in them as an insult. They say the truth hurts and you gave a prime example of that by being insulted and offended by the truth. The Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's, and even the German people are great, it is only the french that are terribly obnoxious and and along with others that are unappreciative. @ agb90spr. Why would America have a insatiable thirst for oil? We have more oil in the US than any other country has oil in their country, and refine more oil than any other country. The rest of you answer was nothing but jealous ranting. @ wotzthep. If you didn't get the point, you surely couldn't understand it if I explained it to you.

My great uncle is one of the men buried over there. He was killed in France during WWI. A French family took the liberty to bury him and they sent my great grandparents a few letters and invited them over to see his grave, unfortunately, they couldn't go because they had very little money. A few years ago, my mom and I, along with a couple of other family members decided to look up the family and try to locate them. We were lucky to find a member of the family (their granddaughter) and we went over to France to meet them and see the grave site. After we met her, her and her husband and brother took us over to the grave site and on the way they told us the story of how the couple's son was also killed during the war and they never found his body. When they were asked to bury the body of my uncle by the French military, they looked after the grave both as a tribute to their son and to the heroic memebers of the U.S. that were trying their best to put an end to the fighting in their country. In fact to this day, memebers of that family keep the grave site clean and watch over it. Those people were actually very nice and I got to know the French culture a bit better. Not every French person hates America and there are some French people that even despise what their country has become. We exchange Christmas cards with them and I even made a penpal and friend with the woman's daughter. I've heard these stories that you're reiterating before and ever time I do it makes me think of that family that took care of my uncle's body during the war. I agree with you that we don't need to take crap from other countries and that sure as hell don't need our President being an apologist. But not every French person just as not every European or Arab or Asian hates America.

America has a lot to be proud of, true. But it also has a lot to be ashamed of. You just have to read a bit about American foreign policy and US support for corrupt regimes (Iraq, Iran, Chile, Vietnam, Afghanistan, to name but a few) and overthrow of democratic governments that wouldn't favor US industry, destruction of economies by US led IMF, etc. and you would know why Obama has had to apologize to the world. Americans love to think of themselves as the good guys ... and in many ways you are ... but behind much of this is self interest ... largely driven by the insatiable US thirst for oil or other resources. On balance American generosity arguably falls well short of compensating for American greed and hypocrisy.

It is the same old story, you help someone and they hate you for being better off than they are. Every country that the US has ever went to war with ended up much better off than before they went to war with the US. The US always rebuilds these countries to much better than they were before. The US has never tried to build an empire out of the countries we have beaten in battle, as so many other countries have done and tried to do. As Colin Powell said, "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return." Obama is a skunk, and the worst thing that has ever happen to the US of A, and anyone with at least two brain cells to rub together knows that.
