Will airfare still be reasonable if I wait to book until just over a month before leaving?
I want to book a one way ticket from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport to Omaha Eppley Airfield so I don't have to drive in a car for 20 hours with the rest of my family back home from vacation. My dad said he might give me $25 for every A I get on my report card (yes, I was shocked when I heard it too) but I thought it could help pay for me to fly back instead of drive because I REALLY HATE driving so far. Anyway, Wilke-Barre is the cheapest airport to fly out of near Middletown, NY (right now $190 on Delta) and I was wondering if the prices would be reasonable by May 27 (report cards day) or if I should book now and hoe I get a lot of A's? It wouldn't be hard to get a lot of A's. The only class I'm really having the most trouble in is Geometry and I still have a low A. ANy advice on when I should book? BTW, this is a one way flight AVP-OMA on July 4 or 5, 2011. BTW, I meant "HOPE I get a lot of A's" instead of hoe. I am willing to drive the way there just because it's more convenient. So I should just ask my parents about it now instead of later? I will be 15 by then so no special minor service will be needed. Ok, I'm pretty sure I should book once the travel date it official. Thanks guys. Other opinions are still welcome, although i'm pretty sure they'll all be the same. I would be flying home. My grandparents would just drop me off at the airport and my parents would be picking me up in Omaha. And flying is something I really want to do because the only chance I ever get to fly is in the summer to New York but this year we aren't because the resort we're staying at is too expensive if you include flying.

I wouldn't bet on it. With summer coming and oil prices going up, I seriously doubt it will go down.

The price will not go down. The best time to buy is NOW.

To answer your question simply, I think you should go ahead ahead and book your flight now since everyone will be flying in the summer, especially since it's Independence Day and there will be a 3-day weekend. Aside from that, you should also consider the cost of gas driving from Middleton to Scranton, in addition to the overnight parking fee. How will you get back to Scranton to pick up your car from the airport parking lot? If you will be driving back from Omaha with your family, then you guys will have to detour (if the airport isn't on the direct path to your house) to pick up your car and then you drive back. You need to SERIOUSLY consider these factors, which could put you above $300 after your ticket is purchased, you get gas for the car (if your parents aren't paying for it), and you pay the overnight parking fee. Honestly, if I were you, I would just suck it up and ride home with my family and save the money your dad gives you to buy yourself something that you really want. I'm sure you'll enjoy that a lot more than blowing it over a quick flight (if you drive with your family, you will probably be asleep most of the trip anyway). Think twice about it!

Hi, Plane fares change and they tend to get more expensive as the departure date gets closer and your flight options becomes limited too. In addition one-way fares tend to be more expensive than round-trip fares. This may mean you will pay more for your one-way ticket than if you bought it as a round trip. Since you are under 18 the airline, regardless of their minor flying alone policy, can still refuse to allow you to board without supervision. This is due to the fact someone under 18, in most jurisdictions, cannot enter into a contract and because there is no valid contract the airline can refuse you. Best advice I can give is to pay for it now, otherwise you may be paying much more if you wait, and if you do purchase it be prepared to loose the money you have given to buy the ticket if the airline refuses to board you.

Flights generally get more expensive as the date comes closer. It's not like hotel rooms when they try to discount it to get someone in.
